Hello! Olá! Holá! こんにちは!

My name is Israel Mendonça and I am an assistant professor at the Big Data department of Kumamoto University.
I have done research in diverse fields of computer science such as Virtual Reality, Router Buffer Optimization, Community Detection, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and Recommender Systems.
Since I joined Aritsugi Laboratory at Kumamoto University, I have been working in applied Machine Learning. I like to apply ML techniques to new fields and produce new insights to old problems.
You can find about my current research here and my publications here. My detailed Curriculum is here.
Apart from Research
In my spare time I enjoy traveling, eating (specially meat), and playing all sort of games. Since the 2020 pandemic, I am doing more of the two last ones rather than the first one.My ideal weekend is on a beach surrounded by good friends and good food.
I also enjoy cooking when I have time, specially roasting things in the oven. Lastly, I enjoy any kind of building. I bought a raspberry pi these days and I am enjoying making lots of silly applications with it.
